This is a renewal version of my past blog “Messages to the US mass media about comfort women issue” that was made in 2013.

Dear All people who live in the United States of America:

I am Japanese who lives in the US as a permanent resident, and love this country the most after Japan.  Very sadly, internationally controversial historical issues between Japan and two countries in East Asia, i.e.,  South Korea and People’s Republic of China are brought into the US.  The most famous dispute is Comfort Women issue. Comfort Women memorials have been built in several locations in the US.

I strongly I oppose the installation of a “Comfort Women” memorial. Ever since moving here to CALIFORNIA 14 years ago, I've treasured the HARMONY of the local community, getting along fine with others of various ethnic backgrounds, including Korean and Chinese Americans. Other Japanese and Japanese Americans are doing so as well, as we believe HARMONY IS one of the most important and respectful values of the United States. However, the HARMONY of the local community will easily be DESTROYED by bringing such disputes herein.

I fear that should a memorial be built which accuses a certain race of whatever happened in the past, it will bring upon prejudice and discrimination, causing even hatred or racism amongst those living peacefully together today. There are people from all over the world forming this country. Still, the United States has long been the MOST SUCCESSFUL nation of multiple races, as citizens have preserved EQUALITY and FAIRNESS to all people. But if all of us brings in international issues between each of our motherlands to the local community the HARMONY within our daily lives will easily be DESTROYED.

Must we really risk that much to build this memorial? Should we not be putting our efforts in things which can UNITE US all the more stronger instead? Please think first of what our local community needs. What the United States needs. Not what other countries need. As long as we live here, we should consider each and every member of this COMMUNITY as FELLOW AMERICANS.

If you still think Comfort Women memorial is necessary, please go forward in this blog and take your time to learn about Comfort Women issues, then please think again whether Comfort Women memorial would be beneficial for the local community, educating children and protecting women’s right.

Thank you for reading,
